blandish (v.): to compliment and flatter someone in the hope of getting something out of them

I blandished my brother into helping me move by complimenting him on the results of his bodybuilding efforts and how easy it would be for him to lift my boxes for me.

I complimented my roommate on the bland dish she made in the hope that she would save me a ton of time and continue to do our cooking during finals week. I could just secretly sprinkle lots of salt and pepper on it.
